Fire Sprinklers in Wales
Different regulations apply to fire sprinklers in Wales. It is mandatory to install automatic fire suppression systems in new build properties in Wales. The original proposal by the Welsh government in 2011 was written into Law in 2013 and underwent a consultation process including fire officers and members from within the fire sprinkler industry. It was decided a phased approach was best starting with those most at risk first (residential care homes) in May 2014 and then all domestic and residential building that require planning permission submitted after January 2016.
This legislation is intended to reduce the number of deaths or injuries caused by fire and protect both members of the public and fire fighters.
